"Dr. Robert Barton is head of the acting program at the University of Oregon. He has performed in most of the plays of Shakespeare and has directed half of them. His most recent professional acting credits include the title role in Galileo and Yvan in Art. He has authored several other acting texts. Barton is recipient of the Theatre Association's Best Book Award and has been honored as Outstanding Acting Coach by the American College Theatre Festival."
About the Author
Robert Barton is Professor Emeritus of Acting at the University of Oregon. He has directed more than half of Shakespeare's plays and performed in most of them, including playing the title role in a PBS production of HAMLET. A prolific author, Dr. Barton has published numerous scholarly articles on acting and seven books, including VOICE: ONSTAGE AND OFF (with Rocco Dal Vera), THEATRE IN YOUR LIFE and LIFE THEMES (both with Annie McGregor), and ACTING REFRAMES. His STYLE FOR ACTORS received the Theatre Association's Best Book Award. In addition, he served as editor and adaptor of the newly revised edition of the classic text THE CRAFT OF COMEDY. The American College Theatre Festival honored Dr. Barton as Outstanding Acting Coach. He received his Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University.

An excellent book for students and teachers of acting.

I HIGHLY recommend this book as a resource for teachers and students of acting and directing. It is clear, concise, accessible and thorough. Barton covers the basics of truth, technique, Stanislavski, warm-ups, physical life, vocal life, rehearsal etiquette, vocabulary, as well as hundreds of useful exercises. In addition, there is a valuable list of scenes appropriate for student actors. My college actors grow tremendously through the application of Barton's simple, clear definition of the basics.

Great for what I paid for

Cheap price, great value. It is hard to complain when I bought the book for about 10 cents and paid 5 bucks for shipping.
